The Quarantine Roundup: March 14

This week was LONG, but we’re excited for the longer days coming with daylight savings! Feels like we’re rounding the corner with winter and have the summer (and vaccinations!!) to look forward to.

What we’re….

Reading:

A: I just bought My Year Abroad by Chang-rae Lee, and I’m loving it so far! I think this is going to be one of the big books of the year.

E: I got an ARC of The Final Revival of Opal and Nev from Netgalley and finished it last night! Can’t wait to share a review.

Eating:

A: We made a few recipes from Half Baked Harvest’s cookbook Super Simple, and they were so, so good! The tomato soup is amazing, especially with the pesto, and even my dad, who hates kale, loved the Meanest Green Pizza

E: I have to give a shoutout to Silver Rice (which I know A loves as well). If you are in south Brooklyn, you can’t beat a mini poke bowl for under $7. So good for a quick dinner. Also had a lovely brunch at Diner last weekend—it was pretty cold (no space heaters), but I got the burger and fries and the french toast and everything was sooo good!

Watching:

A: I just started The Great, and am liking it so far. I loveee anything royal related, but don’t know that much about Catherine the Great. Like E, I also watched Moxie and enjoyed it!

E: Been on a real high-school drama Netflix binge lately. I watched all of Ginny and Georgia (basically Gilmore Girls with muder) in a day last weekend, and also watched Moxie (Amy Poehler produced comedy about teenage girls who start an anonymous feminist zine at their sexist suburban school).

Buying:

A: With the recent news from President Biden that all Americans will be able to get a vaccine by the end of May, this summer is looking a lot more exciting and probably won’t be spent in sweats. I’m starting to do some shopping, and am eying this, this and this. I need to get some matching masks!!

E: I didn’t spend any money on alcohol in February, so I rewarded myself with a big order from my local wine store. They do a discount when you buy 6 or 12 bottles. Highly encourage everyone to support your local liquor and wine stores to see if they do discounts (and they also usually have great recommendations!)

Loving:

A: Someone from work sent this around on Slack, and I’ve been thinking about it all week. The author talks about the idea that New Yorkers are kind, not nice, and  it made me think a lot about what it means to live in New York after the year we’ve had. Over the past year, I’ve seen that New Yorkers are more unified and committed to supporting the city that they love. New Yorkers are kind instead of nice, and I think 9 times out of 10, that’s more important.

E: Yoga has been such a stress reliever for me during the pandemic. I have had this mat from Lululemon for over five years, but for Christmas, I got a full set of yoga blocks, strap, blanket, and bolster. I love doing a little restorative yoga session in the morning or before I go to bed (it’s like nap time for adults!). If you have a Chase Sapphire, you can also get a statement credit for Peloton’s online classes—they have tons of options for different types of yoga, beginner, restorative, slow flow, with classes between 10 and 75 minutes long. Highly recommended!
